The class about Korean education connected the most with the readings as it brought in more information. An issue that I remembered is the decline birth rates that led to the closing of some elementary schools and less demand for elementary teachers. With this issue, a solution that was brought up is having two teachers per classroom. I also learned that Korean teachers must move schools every five years and grades every year. This is something that is very different from the United States schools. The teachers in the United States are able to stay at the same school, teaching the same grade or courses for a long period of time. Some teachers stay at a single school for a long period of time then retiring from that institution.
It was also important to learn about Korean history and its impact on today. The book by Michael Seth had historical contact such as the Japanese colonization era that we learned more about during the Korean history class we took. Seeing how South Korea has suffered then rising from it in about 50 years, it is quite astounding to see how much this country has grown and advanced. It is also still continuing to change as it faces new obstacles.
