From the book I learned that students study way past midnight, and the Korean government had to put up a law restricting the attendance of Hagwon. Reading about how studious the Koreans are was quite surprising, but seeing it in person provids another shocking factor of its own. I stayed up until two am doing my laundry and as I walked past the hallway connecting to the lobby, some students were still studying, flipping through their booklet with no sense of time. The other fact that makes everything more surreal is that they are on summer break. In the US no one studies over summer break, unless they are taking summer classes. Even then, I don't know if studying should be prioritized over sleep.
