We were greeted with warm welcomes from individuals of SNUE and have been treated with such great care. The classes have been very entertaining and informational. So far, my favorite would have to be the Korean Food class since we were able to make food together and enjoy it. I have also been able to apply the vocabulary I learned from Survival Language class to when I go out and interact with locals.
Hot and humid. The weather is still something I’m adjusting to. A hand fan is a must-have in South Korea during this time. Everywhere you go, people are using their fans. Walking around South Korea, I’m always hunting for AC whether that’s in a cafe or a convenience store. Something else that I am always on the hunt for is wifi. Though, there is public wifi almost everywhere, it is either slow or you easily disconnect to it. It has been a frustration to navigate without reliable connection.
There is a long list of what I have been able to do in just a week, but some favorites so far is strolling along the streets of Haeundae Beach in Busan, shopping in Myeongdong area for skin care and clothes, eating out with the other students and the SNUE students. I am so grateful to have been able to be a part of this amazing experience and there is still two more weeks to explore this beautiful country.
Something I have learned from this week though is that you can plan as much as possible, plans are going to have to change. I have been learning to adapt to changes along the way and it is has been a process. I’ve been learning to adapt to a new language, cultural norms, metro system, and much more has its ups and downs. There is still new challenges to be faced in these next two weeks.
