I'm currently finishing up packing and my stuff is all over my room. I'm so excited to begin this adventure of a lifetime, and I hope that I learn and grow tremendously as a result of this experience. Before this trip, I would have known next to nothing about Korean culture, language, society, and politics. I'm excited to expand my worldview, make new friends, and discover a new country. I wonder what they think about Americans? I think sometimes, we as Americans, tend to have an over-inflated sense of self. Due to our American identity, we naturally assume that everyone thinks highly of us (when the truth is, most people really don't care either way). I hope I don't come across that way to any SNUE students. I hope our time together is meaningful in ways that neither of us could have expected, and that we come out of it with a greater appreciation for one another.
I have a few friends that have visited S.K, and they say the food there is to DIE for. I'm excited to try Halal guys, Korean BBQ, Bimbibap, bulgogi, etc. My friends have also told me that they eat a lot of pork over there, so I'm a little nervous about that. I have to triple check and make sure nothing has spam, or other forms of pork.
Overall, I'm really anxious, excited and I know that I'll learn a lot. I'm nervous about learning Korean. I'm naturally bad at Eastern languages, so I hope I don't embarrass myself too much. This gif is an accurate representation of how I'm feeling: excited, nervous, anxious, and EXCITED.
