During my time in Korea, I learned a lot about the Korea, especially the education system and history of how Korea came to be the way that is it today. I especially gained a better understanding of it when we visited 서대문 형무소 (Seodaemun Historical Prison) site. It helped me understand why Koreans had such a strong 한 (han) culture and it really saddened me having gone through the site, seeing all the sad events that happened there and knowing the struggles they had gone through in the past with the Chinese and Japanese. In addition, what really surprised me was, I felt that Jeju residents were different from mainland/Seoul. The people in Jeju seemed much more carefree, less stressed, lively, and I didn’t feel the “rush against time” that I felt in Seoul when everyone seemed like they were always running somewhere; their cultures seemed different. I loved everything I learned, gained and experienced in South Korea and would definitely come back again one day!
