After three weeks of living in South Korea, I’ve learned a lot about the culture. What stood out the most to me during this trip is how respectful everyone is to each other especially towards the elders. I was very surprised to learn that there is a section that only elders can sit in the subway. The nightlife in South Korea also stood out to me because it was much more lively and exciting than during the day time. I remember walking in Hongdae on a Saturday night and there were a lot of people there that were watching performances. I guess my biggest take away regarding Korea’s education, culture, and its people is their persistence and their creativity in craft and music. After talking to the SNUE students and teachers I noticed that many of them were very persistent and they all seem to be working very hard to better their careers. Even when I was watching the performances in Hongdae, you can see that they put a lot of hard work in it. Overall, I now have a better understanding of South Korea’s education and culture and why Korea is like this. I’m very happy and thankful to have this opportunity to travel to another country and learn about their culture.
