Understanding today through history

There have been many times during the week where I have made connections between our readings and the lectures. For example, during our lecture on Korean education, the teacher talked about the Hagwon curfew, which was talked about in our readings. The teacher also talked about a typical schedule for a Korean student that lasts over 8-10 hours, which was also apart of our reading The teacher also mentioned how American and Japanese influences are still present in the education system today, which was also a part of our reading. and after meeting the SNUE students I was able to hear real life experiences of people going through the Korean education system. I found it very interesting that one of the students I spoke with said she did not want to have kids because she did not want her kid to suffer the way she had to.
