During our first week in Seoul, we got lost trying to find the Han river from the sport complex stadium. We encountered a lovely, elderly couple, who was willing to give us directions to the river. However, instead of just giving us direction they were willing to lead us all the way to the river. They also played a song, “Amazing Grace” and told us some stories about the river and the apartments around there. We were surprised that they were willing to guide us all the way to the river because it was a long walk. But because they knew some English, we were able to communicate easily. The cultural aspect from this experience was that we had to use some form of hand gesture and point to explain where we wanted to go to so
that they understood us.
